Top 10 Nu Metal albums by me

Hybrid Theory is a classic and the definition of Nu Metal at its finest. You got everything you could ask for a nu band: heavyness, turntables, rap-driven verses, catchy choruses, thunderous screaming, etc, everything in their own style that they have built in 2000, being a big inspiration for the future nu metal bands. This was my childhood and now still jamming at it at my 20s. This is a must-hear. ♥

I've made one of the biggest mistakes in my entire life and it was not giving Around the Fur an opportunity for a listen. This album is amazing in every way you could imagine, it's filled with such energy that would be enough to fucking nuke an entire state, and it all starts with an addictive riff that will last in your head 'til you die. The vocals are devastating yet melodic, Chino does its peak performance on screaming in this album, and not to mention the heaviest instrumental the rest of the members delivered along. What are you waiting for to jam at this?

TrustCompany's 1999 release (as 41down) would be its darkest release ever, and you'd not be disappointed. The quality might be a mid but don't let that prevent you from taking a listen. It's highly wanted among the underground community. They take the raw energy of the first record and ratchet it up a couple notches. The vocalist does it all with his emotional vocals, going from a painfully plaintive eerily unsettling tone to angrily screaming to agressively barking out his words. I remember listening to this for years, and was in love on the first listen. Definitely worth of your time.

These young boys just formed a band and dropped this diamond-ish classic. It's one of the best albums from the 2000s and it's underrated as fuck. Their urban style, along with energetic yet heavy production and catchy vocals will do its best to pleasure your ears. Stepa combine the melody of alt-rock with the angst and distortion of Alternative nu metal, and it works extremely well. For being very young, these guys also know hooks very well; from the heavy riffs to the strong, melodic choruses, the songs on here are painfully catchy. The production is also very tight; everything sounds sharp, and nothing is too bloated. You should listen to this right now.

Korn's second record, in my opinion, it's the most darkest and heaviest one out of their whole discography. This album tends to not get the roses it deserves. This is some twisted, dark, and psychotic shit right here. This is KoRn at their most abstract, and you can tell by the opening distortion, screams, and guitar squeals of the excellent Chi.Obviously all the KoRn trademarks are here, but this album is head and shoulders above the rest of them, better even than the excellent self-titled debut. There's just some evil, demented psychosis in the songs on this album that make me ever so fond of it.

Don't let the cover fool you, they aren't a bunch of scary guys who like to pointlessly scream. Revolution/Revolución is hard nu metal that relies on catchy choruses and melodic hooks. Christian, the vocalist, can use his voice versatile and also sings in some spanish. The album starts with God Save Us which switches off between loud and soft, contains bits of rap metal and screaming. Then it leads to melodic tracks like Unreal and What Comes Around. Near the end the album doesn't slow down at all with the powerful Revolution/Revolución and ends with an acoustic ballad With You. All in all you should check out this album.

This one's from my country! Carajo was released in 2002 with excellent repercussions, in a difficult year for the Argentine economy, the brand new CD was very well received and enabled them to perform bigger shows. With lyrics committed to the social crisis that the country was going through and a devastating sound, Carajo knew how to earn a place thanks to his first cut Sacate la mierda but it would be supported by other even better songs such as Resistiendo con ideas, Salvaje, Ironía and Pura vida. The initial kick for their growing career was given, from now on they would grow in popularity and recognition and even vary in their sound at that direct and powerful moment that was incorporating variants and becoming more sophisticated until they became the mature band they were. Definitely deserves a listen.

This is your typical nu metal band that brings the aggressiveness and melody to the table, but this is a classic indeed. Songs such as Sinner and All Over Me bringing out evident raw potential behind not just the late Dave Williams (RIP) lyrical talent but the entire band as a whole. Dave knew how to deliver such beautiful vocals and amazing screaming in this record. One of the finest nu metal albums ever recorded. They took an incredible nosedive after this release into hard rock mediocrity after this release that they have never recovered from. You should try this sometime!

Probably the most haunting atmospheric album in this tier, Within came from the underground as their second album and pleasured every FTC fan. Very consistent and enjoyable album with a unique mood. The cover art fully represents the music with slow and melodic moments and emotional aggressiveness filled with frustration against oneself and other lyrical themes. With songs such as Inside the Memories and Breathe the Answer that are potential radio-friendly songs, one of them actually appearing on Smallville. The album lasts more than 1 hour and you should deeply listen to this to appreciate every sound that this album has to offer, it's delicious. Sadly this was FTC's last album and didn't do anything afterwards.

And last but not least, out of New Zealand, Blindspott are kinda LinkinPark-ish but don't just focus on that and take a listen as soon as possible! These guys have amazing songs like the classic Nil by Mouth and SUIT, and the melancholic Blank, good genre variation over the length of the album and a big, well done sound. Phlex met with some success, with a well-marked reggae type style. It's wasn't a surprise that everyone liked this album a lot, it went Platinum in its first week of release and went later triple platinum. Blindspott were voted New Zealand's favorite band in 2003. The mix of singing, rapping and screaming vocals, next to soft rock, ska, heavy rock, metal and sometimes atmospheric music is a huge thing to accomplish in one band. It deserves your time.
